Spiral folding lamps
The objects originally were conceived as light decorations for garden parties. The final form-family, however, can be used both indoors and outdoors as elements for atmospheric lighting. The forms have traced patterns based on the ratio of logarithmic spirals, the traced patterns are distorted and condensed from various directions. The system of the ratio also exists in the forms of pine cones, sunflower, the flakes of pineapple and in the leaves and the stems of some plants as well. The rays of light passing through the form project lively images on the surroundings.The light source, placed in the middle, creates different sight from every angle, a vision of various spirals. The structure of the form is one flat sheet turning into a spatial system.The user can assemble the object himself from the surface, by folding following the lines, and snapping the arrows together. The shape of the surface and the arrows show the method of assembly. It exists in various forms and sizes, e.g. sphere, lentil, bean etc. The lighting objects are made of 0,8 and 0,5 mm polypropylene plates. The characteristics of the material: flexibility, easily cleanable, airiness, price – are all adequate for the goal. The surface can be cut out from polypropylene sheets, digitally or manually.

Meine Objekte wurden zunächst als Licht-Dekoration für Gartenfeste entworfen. Heute können sie allerdings sowohl im Aussen- als auch im Innenbereich als atmosphärische Lichtelemente eingesetzt werden. Die Objekte sind mit auf logarhythmischen Spiralen basierten Mustern bedruckt, die aus verschiedenen Richtungen betrachtet, verzerrt und komprimiert erscheinen. Ähnliche logarhythmischen Formen lassen sich in der Pflanzenwelt wiederfinden, zb. bei Tannenzapfen, Sonnenblumen oder Ananasblättern. Durch die in der Mitte platzierte Lichtquelle ergeben je nach Betrachtungswinkel unterschiedliche Spiral-Muster, die lebendige Formen auf die Umgebung des Objekts abbilden. Meine Lichtobjekte entstehen aus 0.8 und 0.5 mm dickem Polypropylen-Platten, welche zunächst entweder manuell oder digital zugeschnitten werden und dann durch Zusammenstecken ein räumliches System ergeben. Das Material lässt sich gut reinigen und zeichnet sich durch Flexibilität und Leichtigkeit aus. Wie genau die Objekte zusammengesetzt werden ergibt sich aus der Oberfläche mit vorgezeichneten Linien und definierten Endstücken. Der Besitzer baut sein Lichtobjekt eigenhändig zusammen, indem er vorgegeben Linien folgt und Endstücke ineinander verhakt. Meine Produkte sind in verschiedenen Formen, zb. sphere, lentil oder bean, und Grössen erhältlich.
Hexagonal lamp variation
The lamps are meant to be hung from the ceiling, for indoor use mainly. Each form is designed and cut digitally, assembled afterwards. Five variations were created of which each lamp can be assembled in a unique way. A lamp consists of twelve small elements, which are repeated in circles, these elements linked together create the actual form. The material is a 0,3 translucent plastic, thus their weight is very little, around 0,5-1 kg. Despite the softness of the material, the structure, which is a hexagonal system, creates a firm, even form. The small elements of the lamps display a star-like appearance at the intersections of the hexagons, this pattern covers the whole surface of the form. This structure allows many possible form variations. It could be produced in different colours, from transparent, translucent or smoky materials. All materials can be combined e.g one part coloured, another white - thus through linking the elements in different colours, an interesting visual effect on the surface of the lighting object can be achieved.
